When you’re making homemade hamburgers, you often wan’t to vary the buns you’re using and there’s really no limit on how to use
this recipe, add some oregano to make then buns italian style, add some chili flakes to a perfect barbecue hamburger, imagination is the only limit.
I often make these hamburger buns with carrot in as well, it gives nice juicyness to the buns.
So here is my recipe for homemade hamburger buns.
Hamburger Buns Recipe
A really easy recipe for homemade Hamburger Buns
- luke warm water - 2 cups
- active dry yeast - 2 tablespoons or 0.5oz fresh active yeast
- maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
- oliveoil - 1 tablespoon, you can make them without this if you want
- plain wheat flour - 4 cups
- whole wheat flour - 1 cup
- egg - 1
- sesame seeds -
- wheat flour - for kneading
In a large bowl, mix the water, yeast, syrup, salt and oliveoil and stir it together well, until the yeast is dissolved
Mix in the plain wheat flour and the wholewheat flour and stead kneading it together
Knead the dough for approximately 8 minutes, adding some extra flour, until the dough almost slips your fingers by itself. If you use a stand mixer, just watch the dough getting firm.
Let the dough rise for 45 minutes under a clean kitchen towel
Beat down the dough and divide it into 10 hamburger buns and place them on a baking sheet
Flatten your buns, slightly, since they will grow when they rise again.
Heat up the oven to 400 degrees and let the buns rise for 45 minutes longer, covered by a kitchen towel
Beat the egg with a fork until the yolk and the white are combined.
Brush the beaten egg on top of the rolls
Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the rolls
Bake the hamburger buns for 15-20 minutes, until theyre golden and crispy.
Hamburger buns are now ready to be filled up with your own best beef, pulled pork, chicken or sloppy joe and lots of salad, ketchup, mayo and maybe your homemade relish.

If you wanna serve some double fried fries to you hamburger it's very simple to make.
Get some big potatoes and cut them into large fries.
Mix some flour with paprika and salt and mix in the potatoes.
Get some frying oil and warm it up.
Put in the potatoes for 2-3 minutes and put them back in the flour mix and let them cool off.
Just before serving hamburgers, just fry the potatoes once again for 4-5 minutes and serve them right away sprinkled with extra salt.
